This is not a great lens, but you can get sharp handheld shots with it if you shoot at a high ISO and at 1/500th of a sec or faster. The dork above didn't seem to know that. I hate it when dumb people write dumb reviews when it's not the equipment's fault. This is a bit of a joke when it comes to a photographic lens, and is surely at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to quality, but it's not like looking through a drinking glass or anything. I'd say this is a few notches below kit lens quality. Understand this when buying, and you'll have some fun.

The bag is perfect and the cleaning kit is a nice touch.
The tripod is very flimsy but functional, it has a quick relese that works fine. Overall very cheap tripod that does the job.
The lens so far has produced garbage pictures that get worse with the use of the 2X converter. Maybe it's me, maybe it's not, it's a manual lens and it needs tons of light.
The service from Cameta was perfect, will buy from them again with no concerns at all.

Nikon remains one of the pioneering manufacturers with respect to perspective control lenses of which this 28mm f3.5 PC Nikkor AI-S lens is a fine example. This lens retains a manual lens diaphragm, which means that lens apertures must be opened and closed via stop-down metering. In plain English, it's not nearly as automatic as most other Nikkor lenses - both manual focusing and autofocusing - when it comes to setting the desired aperture and taking the photograph. But those who are interested in both architecture and landscape photography will appreciate the fact that this lens will adjust apparent distortions by manually shifting the lens angle via its tilt and shift feature (For example if you came up close to a forest and photographed with a regular 28mm lens, the resulting image would look as though the forest was "falling down"; instead with this perspective control lens, any photograph of the forest will show that it is still standing erect.).

I bought Maxxum 7D because I already own a set of Maxxum lenses with my previous film camera. However, because digital camera increase 1.5 times of the lens' focal length, I needed a wide angle lens. I bought this one by reading only one user review (from J. Wood) that I could find on the net. But, boy, it is a pice of gold! It gives you a high quality look as well as beautiful pictures.
I take meeting pictures where people don't like to be disturbed by flash, and this lens allows me to take it in low light situation, plus the 7D's anti-shake technology allows me to get clear pictures at lower speed.
Now I feel my old lenses too heavy. I have also ordered the news 18-200 D lens. I think these two lenses will meet most of my needs. One for indoor, and the other for outdoor walk around.

This lens is the tool to get images that jump out at the viewer. As a sports lens I don't know if there is a better solution. It is a lot of weight to pack around, but after one or two games you get used to moving it around. A mono-pod is required for shooting any more than a few shots at a time. Since I purchased this lens it has been attached to my camera exclusively with the exception of one wedding shoot.

The lens is great and I have had a lot of great success taking lunar pictures with it. Was more then worth the price. The tri-pod that they send with the kit can't support the weight of the lens, but that's not a huge concern. Otherwise, everything was great and as promised.

Just by putting the lens on your camera you find new ways of looking at everything. I like to do extreme closeups of everyday objects and with this lens you have so many alternatives. It's really fun to work with. And incredibly easy. I thought at first it would take some time but after about 10 minutes of doing some simple table top shots, I got the hang of it.
The mount provided on this lens fit perfectly on the Sony Alpha A100. You do need to adjust it for exposure, which again is very easy. Great lens to add to your arsenal.

I own this in the Canon EOS mount.. they are in fact all the same, just ships with a different T-mount adapter, and the 420-1600 just ships with a 2x teleconverter.
This is a very light weight lens, especially for its focal length, it has no aperture blades, it's completely empty on the inside, its like an old style hand telescope. When sources of strong constrast/light are coming toward the camera, expect heavy chromatic aberration, free of chromatic aberration in other situations.
However, I've found a particularly excellent use for this lens, which is taking great photos of the moon on a tripod with a shutter release cable on my Canon 30D.
Although be warned, the lens is very physically long, although light, it makes focussing extremely difficult, especially on a tripod, as there is no tripod collar, you attached the camera to the tripod, then when you zoom the lens all the way (linear pull zoom) the lens is over 30cm long (12 inches!), although light because its empty, its supported on the tripod from the camera base, so soon as you touch the lens or camera, or the focussing ring, the image in the view finder shakes like crazy while trying to focus, making it hard to focus on the most useful application with this lens... on a tripod.
You can only use this lens hand held in full day light, and if you're doing so you'll need a shutter speed of 1/500 sec to eliminate blur from your own movement (due to the massive focal length), 1/250 sec is the minimum for sharp shots I could personally get.
And shooting in daylight, whether hand held or tripod, you're going to want to use a 1A sky filter AND a polarising filter (or at least one of them) to increase colour and contrast, luckily this thing comes with a lens hood.
The top of this lens screws off easily, so you can keep the lens pieces clean, if they ever develop fungus, good thing about this lens is water wont damage it, as it doesnt even have aperture blades, just glass and coated metal.
Though since the tip screws off you could cut a circle out of some black card then a hole in the middle and insert it into the middle of the lens to create your own aperture to try and improve sharpness and increase depth of field, and reduce aberration and flare etc.
I hope this helps.
Also, forgot to mention that this lens has pretty good macro capabilities (in terms of enlargement in close focus objects with miniscule depth of field).

Well worth the time to learn its particular benefits! Have all sorts of ideas about what else to try, so feel that a whole new branch on my photographic journey has opened up.

Camera body: Canon EOS DSLR 12 mega pixel model
I just finished trying out the Lens-Baby. There are a couple of items to be aware of - first the mount doesn't come with lenses, you need to order those additionally. Second you should be experienced with your camera and basic concepts like aperture (f-stop), and ISO speed because you have to manually select your aperture and manually focus (I also manually set my speed).
I purchased both the wide angle and macro lenses for the mount. I was really surprised at how sharp and good the photos turned out. I thought it would be good fun and maybe create some special effects but was really amazed at the quality of the photos.
This will definitely be a lens I use often!

I have this lens and use it on my a100. since its a fixed mirror lens you have to set the camera so it doesnt lens detect. Its an f8 lens if its more than just a few feet away it will be in focus. (focus is adjustable) Also mirror lenses, just like telescopes give you very flat images..No depth of field. But even very expensive lenses aren't much better. So this really isn't the lens for a professional or serious nature photographer but if you need a 500mm lens ocassionally this isn't as bad as all that. This lens is not blurry if you use a tripod or, a monopod in good lighting situations. I doubt anyone can handhold an 500mm f8 lens without any motion blur. If anyone thinks they are going to get the quality from a $75.00 lens as you would a $3500 Prime lens then you're delusional Even a $400 500mm lens will only give at best just acceptable results not much better if at all to this cheap opteka. I have used this lens about 5x in the last 2 years and have gotten very good results. If you have the Sony A-series set to VIVID it will give you good color, If not you can always boost it with any photo editing program. Ive been a professional photographer for 22 years and I know a thing or two about cameras and lenses. If you use this lens properly it will handle your Basic needs adequately. Also the best thing about the lens is that its compact and cheap. If you drop it your not actually going to loose your mind if it breaks.

Pros:
Compact
Light-weight
Good feel/build, looks great too!
Wide coverage of focal lenghts
Cons:
Poor image quality
Loss of contrast
I bought this lens about six months ago for my Nikon D60, despite the fact that it would not auto-focus with my camera. Even when properly focused, I would notice a loss of saturation and contrast at longer focal lengths, and often the effects were beyond the help of photoshop. It was a shame; the lens really felt good in my hands; it was a decent size, good build to it, and the included hood was nice; just lacking in image quality.

I hesitated for weeks before buying this lens. It's expensive (only $1,000 or so cheaper than the wonderful 400mm 2.8 Canon lens), it's 4.0 instead of 2.8, it's not an L lens (since it uses the less common diffractive optics), and the user reviews of the early production lenses were mixed (the latter reviews are much better). However, I finally decided to buy because I needed a 400mm lens for a mix of sports and outdoors photos, and I knew that I would rarely use the much heavier and longer 400mm 2.8 lens. It is true that the 400mm 2.8 has photographic advantages over the 400mm 4.0 DO, but those don't mean anything if you don't have the lens with you when you need it!
In the month or so I've had the 400mm DO, I've taken it with me on trips--in planes, inside the cabin, with enough space for two camera bodies, and 24-70mm and 70-200mm zoom lenses--and I've shot sports handheld _exclusively_. The autofocus is very fast, the image quality is _astounding_, and I can only say good things about this lens. Perfect 10 for me!

I bought this on a whim because it was so large for so cheap. I'm still trying to find the best use for it, but I've gotten some decent images out of it. Used on my Pentax K10D, I find I get the best images out of it on a sunny day with a high shutter speed. I tried some night/tripod shots, and wasn't too excited about the results. As long as you understand the limitations of this lens before you buy it, you won't be disapointed. Realize that your getting a ton of reach 800mm, in a very compact form, for not very much money; so understand that image quality is not going to be that great. Also, when reviewing the images I posted, keep in mind this is my first day with this lens.
I posted some images, and they're all taken without a Tripod; but if your not using a tripod you will HAVE to be resting this lens against something. Hand holding (even with Steady Stock) is NOT an option. This really isn't as big of a hassle as people make it out to be, but keep in mind you'll still be throwing away a lot of images because of shake (even with Sony Steady Shot on and resting against something). At this reach you have to expect shake is going to be an issue, so I didn't mark down for this.
Focusing is hard only in the sense that it's hard to see perfect focus in the view finder. A split viewfinder designed for MF would probably be helpful here. You can tell some of my photos might be a little out of focus and that's only because I couldn't tell with just the plain viewfinder. This is an issue with any MF lens, and I was aware of it going in so I didn't mark down.
With any mirror lens bokeh is going to produce "doughnuts". None of my pictures show this very well, so be aware. You should already know about this since your looking at a mirror lens, so I didn't mark down for this either.
I rated 4/5 because of the T-mount (which is basically a screw on mount). The kit comes with an adapter, but the teleconverter is T-mount as well. I was hoping to be able to use the teleconverter on other alpha lenses, but that's not possible unless they're T-mount lenses. This isn't a huge thing, but it's a disapointment that wasn't made clear when I bought it.
The whole 800mm x2 Teleconverter = 1600mm works okay, but I don't know if I'll need that much reach. You have to remember that the longer the focal length, the more steady the camera needs to be. So I'd rather give up the 2x and a have 800mm that I don't have to steady as much, vs a 1600mm that would be unstable even on a tripod.
The Steady-stock is an interesting gizmoe, you won't be able to use it with the Rokinon 800mm because it's not stable enough, but it'll be a interesting gadget to try out when I'm using another lens.
Overall, a fun little kit. If your planning to go enter a bunch of photography contests, go spend >$2k super-telephoto lens that's about 3 feet long. IQ is quite poor but that's to be expected, which is why I rated 4/5. If you just want a cheap little lens, that you can actually fit into your bag; to give you some monster reach to have a little fun; this is the lens for you.

This is my first Amazon review. I have been shopping with Amazon since 98. I just got this item shipped to me from Amazon today.
The main reason why I am writing this review is, the details of this product captured by Amazon are not correct. I ordered the item and then after re-reading the product specification and comparing with what I really thought I was ordering, I did more research on the web and came to the conclusion that Amazon probably had the details wrong. But since I am spending so much money, I wanted to be sure and sent an email to Amazon with more details of why I think they may have the details wrong.
I got a reply back telling me to talk to the manufacturer for more details. I sent them the product anouncement from sigma's website and asked them if that is what I ordered and if not to cancel my order. They said that the item I ordered was different and that they can't cancel the order by that time though they sent me details about how to return. I am sure they would refund me appropriately.
I decided to wait and see if the product is really different (as I couldn't find any where on the entire web a sigma lens with these specs) knowing that I would have to spend for shipping cost if I have to return (on the otherhand if I rejected from UPS, then I don't have to pay).
Finally the product came. And as I was almost sure, the product description that they have is completely wrong from what I got. And to my pleasant surprise, what I got is actually what I had in mind from the beginning.
The specific wrong information they have about this product in their "Product Specification" are
1. Lens construction: 18/16
2. Minimum focus distance: 32.7-46.1 inches
3. Maximum Magnification: 1:5
4. Filter Size: 72
Note that their mfg # is 793-110 which is consistent with Sigma's mfg # (I contacted Sigma to confirm).
Here are the real specs of the product as given in the documentation of the product I got
1. Lens construction: 15/13
2. Minimum focus distance: 19.7 inches
3. Maximum Magnification: 1:3
4. Filter Size: 62
I am leaving the product with 5 stars as I haven't used it much ( I just got it). My few minutes of experiment shows that the lens is working fine (and can already feel the difference from my 28-105mm lens that I got when I first bought SA-9 a year ago). I feel the zoom ring a bit unsmooth compared to my other lens. But may be because it is new. Other than that, I can't comment much on this lens at this time.
My main reason to write this review is so that Amazon will improve their catalog content management (and more importantly take customer inquiries more seriously and fix data errors) and people who are actually trying to buy this product will not be confused with the spec like me

A fun lens for the price. It takes a very steady tripod to shoot with this focal length as the smallest vibration becomes a large shake at the end of the lens. I cant see it getting much use in my lens arsenal, but if you need to zoom way, way out, it can read license plates from many blocks away. Dont buy it as your only telephoto, but if you know that you are getting what you pay for, its not a bad lens.

I have had this lens for 3 1/2 months and the only problem I have it is that it's so good that I seldom want to switch to any of my other lenses! My 14~54 lens is now relegated to a "back-up" role. I also appreciate the new "pinch" lens cap design because it is much easier to remove and replace the cap without removing the lens hood.
It is however a large piece of equipment so I would not recommend it for someone who is looking for the compact lens/camera combination possible with the E-4xx or E-5xx models.
I use mine with either an E-3 or an E-1 which means I normally have a battery grip to help balance the handling of the camera. Most of my recent photos have been made with this lens and some can be viewed at my Flickr page.

Things I like about this lens:
* wide range (18-200mm) gives you a lot of flexibility
* OS (the Optical Stabilizer)
* comes with a hood
* sturdy lens
* big, but not too big
Things that I don't like so much about this lens:
* does not auto-focus within close (about 1ft or so) range (but you might be able to try manual focusing in that case.)
* it's not the perfect walk-around lens (due to focusing issue w/in short range)
Overall, I'd give this product 3.5 stars. (Sorry that it's listed as 5, I couldn't change it.) I like the lens, but you'll need other lens in addition to this one...especially if you're into macro/portrait type photos.

I purchased this lens for my Minolta SLR and it now works well with my Sony A100 digital SLR. I shoot sports, primarily rowing, and this lens works well from all perspectives.
Getting the settings right is a bit tricky as not much light filters through the lens itself. On bright, clear days, it works fantastically on the sports setting of my camera. Any hint of cloud or dusk and I go to adjusting shutter speed manually to keep the light coming in.
It can be tricky to focus quickly as your subject moves closer then far away again (as happens in rowing races) but I've used this lens for close-ups on faces as well as fixed-distance shots from stands at a large event.
When zooming into the photos on my computer for closer cropping, they can be quite pixellated, but overall the definition is good.
If you're an experienced photographer, then you'll probably find this lens a bit too basic. But for me, a person who loves to take photos for fun and is still learning about my camera, it's great value for money. I would recommend a monopod support (there is a mount on the lens) but I shoot successfully without one, provided the light is good enough.

Amazing results. I was considering the 300/2.8AFS VR.. but it costs a whole lot more ( ~$5K), and its too heavy to lug around. The 300/4 AFS is affordable and can be easily hand held. The images from this lens, obviously, cannot match the f/2.8 lens, but they are close. Everything considered, the AFS 300mm f/4 Nikkor is a better value than the 2.8 VR lens.

A very poor choice for a lens. Would not recommend this lens unless it comes with a generous return policy.
Lens is not sharp & has very poor contrast.

My uncle is a photographer, and he has made a lot of money with this little guy. I visited home this summer, and bought a Canon 40D (my first foray into SLR photography). He told me to give the Lensbaby a try. I must say my shots are nothing like his, but I do plan to get one sometime and give it a serious try.
I could see someone buy this, and easily getting fed up with it. If you don't seem to get any good shots, just keep trying, and try different things. I'm sure if you bought this little guy, you're willing to give it a good try. Just don't give up on it.
I will post a couple of pictures so you can see some first attempts. They're not great, but offer a lot of potential.

I take a lot of high school soccer photos. Light is bad and the action fast. I think this lens is perfect. It is heavy and powerful. It gets the job done. There is almost no distortion and the it puts me on the field with action. It is not easy to use, a tripod is necessary, although if you have good upper body strength a monopod works. Nothing is like it.

I purchased this lens in order to take advantage of the 2.0 f-stop in horribly lit hs gymnasiums. This lens paired with my D2Hs is outstanding. It has to be the best volleyball lens in existence.
The only drawback is that it weighs a TON (better start doing your push-ups!). But, when you see the shots it produces, the weight is no longer a problem. I used a 70-200VR prior to this purchase, and it is/was a great lens, but it isn't even in the 200's class.
If you shoot basketball or volleyball this is a great lens. . . if you can afford it. If you can't, . . well, you only need one kidney.
Update, I have now paired this lens with a D3. . . OUTSTANDING.

I'm able to get increased functionality from a variety of lenses because of the increased focal length the teleconverter provides. It allows me to be farther away from a subject when using my macro lense and increases the range of my zoom lenses. It's extremely useful even though it costs 2 f-stops of light. Since most of my macro shots (which is where it's most useful for me) are done in brighter light, the loss of the f-stops isn't critical.

My family just spent two weeks with this lens photographing wildlife, hand-holding it all day. It does get heavy after a few hours, but except for a sore shoulder or two we have nothing to complain about. My daughter, 15, held it better than her parents, so we gave her the bird work. For me, the value of the lens lies in the quality of the blur it creates. Much like the similar Nikon 600mm, it will frame your subjects in an abstract setting that is as smooth as a watercolor painting. Also, no other lens I've used takes advantage of that "C" autofocus setting so well. For example, we were able to shoot grazing antelope from the back of bouncy, moving truck and get the fur in focus in every shot.

Wide-Lens Image? Just barely discernable as having been used.
Macro-Lens Image? Puhleeeze, stick w/your onboard settings.
I don't recommend it nor, knowing what I know now, would I have ever purchased it. It's your money, knock yourself out...

This lens is fantastic for the budget shooter and even the serious amateur.
I did a lot of research before buying this lens and the positive reviews were generally spot on. The lens is well built, sharp, and quick.
There are some cons to weigh before purchasing the lens, however. The first and most annoying of these being the focal range. As much as I like having 75mm on the long end, 28mm is in no way wide enough for everyday use. I shoot mainly travel images, and the 28mm (42mm on DX sensor) is not acceptable for landscapes. Thus, I carried an 18-55mm that was given to me. Not an awful tragedy, but enough to be an inconvenience.
Second, the lens creep can be plaguing on certain copies of the lens. Sure there is a lock, but this only works on 28mm.
Overall, as with any lens purchase, it's important to decide what kind of lens you need based on the type of images you are shooting for. I need a good range and it's not always handy to switch lenses, so I'm buying the 18-105mm from Nikon.
Note: the manual focus is very smooth, as is the zoom.

Rokinon 500mm telephoto lens review
As a pro photographer for over 3 years. In the two-year I purchased the Rokinon lens 500mm ED glass lens to test it. After I bought it I could not get enough. When back out and bought the whole line of prime lenses after getting results and info not known to me many years earlier. Rokinon seemed to be an off brand to many non pro however known to many pro shop as a quality thoird party lens. The lenses is Multi coated ED lenses and turns out to be well built quality lenses although they are third party manufactures In Korea. I highly recommend Rokinon to shutterbugs as well as newbie pros to do consider this a quality lenses at a very reasonable price. Don't waste your money on mane brand lenses where the cost keeps rising due to misinformaion and low education in the lens world. In this case you really get what you did not pay for! It's a steal. It comes with a t-mount for Nikon AI and adapters for canon however you must specify which camera you have whether canon or Nikon. Pictures come out pretty sharp since it is made with ED glass just like the newer canon or Nikon lenses people are spending bundles of money on. It took me 3 years to figure this out. However better late than never! Rokinon has both mirror lens and telephoto long lens made by the same company of Canon and Nikon according to the rep which whom I spoke with via telephone. The Rokinon lenses are light made of aluminum meaning they have long life compared to plastic lenses made today by Nikon and the Rokinon are very inexpensive for the quality as far as sharpness and focal length with no difference compared to many name brands telephotos on the market including Canon and Nikon in it's category. However could have beaten Nikons top of the line telephoto lens if they had If you bought a Rokinon zoom lens you have no problems at all. However, at fixed f8, all you have to do is set your camera to manual, on DSLR's select an ISO and then just adjust the shutter speed for best exposure. Focusing on a subject, especially a moving one will take a lot of practice if you are new at this the outcome of Rokinon lenses are all smiles:) once you had some practice. How is the picture result as far as quality of sharpness and overall photo quality compared to any other Canon telephoto lens on the market today? The lens is a non-cemented achromat and I give it a 10 on a scale from 1-10. If it were auto focus it wouldn't have been close to the manual asking price for the lengths that this beauty can go. Focusing is smooth all the way? Is there any lack of a diaphragm with a camera mount? No, it does not.

What's Rokinon's website?
Rokinon doesn't have a website enthusiasts other than for there redistributions centers and chosen stores and website mostly in Canada since they are third party and don't want orders to be dropped on Nikon and canon brand lens so they ship the lenses directly to the distributor exclusively to redistributed to redistributions like [...] and there main exclusive distributor which is called Elite Brands Inc.- [...].
There are also authentic distributors called resellers on eBay and other website that sell [...] located in the Northwest United States. However personally I prefer to get them on eBay because that's where the deals are. Just make sure to check feedback to make sure the seller your getting it from is an authentic redistribution that way you will get warrantee if you take care of it. Check out seller user name "bestpriceoptcs" for the lowest prices. Back to warrantee info, if you are planning to drop the Rokinon into a trash compactor mistakenly or off a cliff
Some where, then I suggest you fill out the warrantee card that comes in the box and ship out the card speedy delivery (that's priority mail:), that way your sure to get a warrantee right away, in the event you were to drop your lens in a trash compactor or something so detrimental to damage the Rokinon lens. Other than that you have 30 days to mail the warrantee card to the warrantee center who will take good care of you.:)
Rokinon lenses can use freehand as compared to phoenix that cannot use freehand and must use a tripod. Remote features help with camera shake if you don't have a steady hand like mine. Using a sturdy self-standing monopod would be sufficient since the lens is lightweight. Great for landscape, astrological/lunar, and wildlife on all Spheres, this lens where meant for photographers from all walks of life. My only pet peeve is if the manufacturer had only added a 2" extra length in the internally moving tube beyond the maximum zooming range would have added enough stability to render the lens far superior than any Nikon and canon current configuration in it's lens category today and would be the number one manual lens on the market. If it had auto focus no one but the rich would be able to afford them. I am really a Nikonian and Rokinon was one my first off the market third party lens before I started investing in more. I am still a Nikon lover but venturing over to more inexpensive quality lenses made by same companies making quality lenses. "Rokinon mother company " makes the best refraction telescopes available today.. That's a memo.

Yes rec-pad leaves less hair behind than my good old a-dollar-a-bunch variety of cotton sticks. But it does still leave hairs behind, much to my dismay. The Eclipse viprates faster than my mix of alcohol and Windex (as suggested by a web source), and yet it also leaves traces behind like my cheaper variety, less trace but still... But since cleaning the sensor is such a painstaking endeavor, every little bit helps. My refurb Canon 5D got some stubborn dots on the sensor I just can't seem to get rid of. Finally I use the cotton stick with soaked Eclipse rubbing the spots back and forth forcefully several times did the trick. Then I have to deal with the traces left behind after the Eclipse dried up (in 15sec maybe). But those traces are far less nasty than the Windex mix. I used Windex/Alchohol mix successfully cleaned my two other cams for a couple of years but this Rec-Pad/Eclipse combo seem to work better with less hassle. For the price, it should be. I had my doubt when I saw the product promotion video on their website (one wipe and you are done) before I bought the thing. After using it, I think the video is just crap. It might have worked as advertized if the sensor got just one floating dust landed on the sensor a minute ago. That is not the kind of dust I got on my sensors and I usually need to clean my sensor like I do with my windows - you don't just do one swab, you rub it, and rub again, back and forth. Eventually the thing will be shining like new. But not before that. One swab and its done? Crap!
Bottom line - This product is helpful, but far less magical than they like to make you believe. Today's sensor design sucks, the requirement to clean it from time to time is worse, and the actually endeavor of doing it is the worst. But somebody's got to do it.
Here's the thing I found most useful for the job: household vaccum cleaner, luminated Sensor Loupe, Rec-Pad/Eclipse, cotton sticks (for tough spots), Giottos tripod with flex center column to hang the camera upside down with (so the dust falls down from the camera once cleaned rather than going back in). They work every time! But I am thinking, if I am out on the road without all these things to help me with, probably the next best thing would be the pre-moisturaized and sealed sensor swabs.

I have just started working with this lens, and I am already amazed by it's capabilities with my D300.
Well made, solid, and of course very fast allowing you to take good low light photos without flash. Focusing speed is not bad at all.
Though ideal for portraits, I am happy with the results for other subjects too. Could not notice any vignetting or distortion -just perfect photos.
The focus ring at the edge of the lens rotates, but I quickly used to not touching it when holding the camera. And what I most like about this prime, is that it makes carrying around my D300 much easier than with the Zoom lens I have.
I am looking forward to shooting various subjects with this lens during our upcoming vacation.Buy Nikon 50mm f/1.4D AF Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras!

This is a fantastic lens for the price. Since I got it it has been on my Xti(400D) most of the time. I can't comment on the quality issues, as my copy was perfect. It is fully made of plastic, but it is well built and feels robust. (I don't own any L-series lenses to compare).
The cons of these lens are that the focus motors sound quite a bit, and is not the fastest I've seen. It has no IS, but in this focal range you can live without it unless you shoot in very low light conditions. As others pointed, flare could have been controlled better.
Why 5 starts? Because it is _very_ sharp. Sharper than my 28-135IS and even the 50mm f1.8 II. And the colors are good. I've played with the Canon 17-85mm and the image quality of the Tamron is much better. If you don't want/can't spend the almost $1000 the canon 17-55 cost, I certainly recomend this.Buy Tamron AF 17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di-II LD SP ZL Aspherical (IF) Zoom Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras!
